NesiGate 2.8.1 is a maintenance release & is now available (Dec. 7, 2006)
This release is available as a no-charge upgrade to customers who have NESiGate units still in their warranty period, or to customers who have elected to purchase the NESiGate Firmware Support option. If you are unsure of your current support status, please contact support@netex.com.
OPERATIONAL/PROCEDURAL IMPACT
1) New Key Requirement: NESiGate Release 2.8.1 requires a new NESiGate key to be installed if upgrading from a release prior to Release 2.8. Customers that are upgrading from Release 2.8 do not require a new NESiGate key, since the Release 2.8 key will continue to work with Release 2.8.1.
If a new NESiGate key is needed, request a new key by sending an e-mail to support@netex.com. Include the serial numbers of all of your NESiGate appliances in the request, along with the type
of each NESiGate (CA, CO, LO, or HG). Netex Support will return the new NESiGate keys after verifying your current support status.
2) NGadmin user/password administration has moved to a new web panel.
FEATURES/ENHANCEMENTS
1) Performance data (CPU and memory usage) is logged periodically and may be displayed.
2) Commands have been added to launch NetEx application tools (ntxeat/ntxgen tests) on NESiGate-LO and NESiGate-CO platforms.
3) Commands have been added to configure HTTP access to NESiGate as either allowed or disallowed HTTPS (secure HTTP) is always allowed.
4) Additional NetEx parameters can be changed from the browser interface for NESiGate-LO and NESiGate-CO platforms.
5) A command has been added to allow ngadmin1 to unconditionally reset any ngadmin password.
6) A command has been added to allow ngadmin1 to become the root user.
7) A command has been added to allow/disallow root access directly via ssh.
These features and enhancements represent a continuation of the enhancements that were introduced in NESiGate Release 2.8.

DOWNLOAD PROCEDURE
To upgrade from a 2.7.x version, you may download the current product release from ftp.netexsw.com. Login as anonymous, cd downloads/nesigate-install, binary, get nesi-inst. If your web browser is properly configured, download the current release from: ftp://ftp.netexsw.com/downloads/nesigate-install/nesi-inst
To upgrade from a NESiGate version older than 2.7.2, you must acquire the OS CD set and upgrade the NESiGate as described in the 2.7.2 Release Announcement and in the Software Installation manual. The software is on a set of 5 CDs. Three CDs contain the NESiGate operating system, one the NESiGate product (CA, CO, LO or GW), and one an OS recovery CD. Please contact NetEx support in order to obtain the CD set.

END OF SUPPORT
In accordance with our Service Policy, support for releases 2.6 and older ended on Aug. 30, 2006.
Support for releases 2.7.2, 2.7.3, 2.7.4, 2.7.5 ended on November 30, 2006.
Support for NESiGate release 2.7.6 will end on April 1, 2007.
Support for NESiGate release 2.8 will end on June 7, 2007.
