NetEx HyperIP Scores High Marks in eWEEK Lab Test

700% performance boost in WAN throughput helps NetEx’s HyperIP DRO create an ally with IT departments trying to get the most out of their precious WAN bandwidth

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn., Nov. 15, 2005 -- NetEx, the worldwide leader in high performance data transport solutions, received high marks in a recent eWEEK Lab review of the company’s HyperIP DRO (Data Replication Optimizer) appliance, praising its ability to accelerate replication and FTP applications between data centers.

Published in the November 7 issue of eWEEK magazine, the article entitled “HyperIP Powers Up Expanding WAN Links” said that “NetEx’s HyperIP is ideal for accelerating replication traffic over WANs.”  The standalone review awarded NetEx with an “excellent” designation for WAN Acceleration and “good” ratings for the categories of Interoperability, Manageability and Ease of Implementation.

“We were thoroughly impressed with the HyperIP’s ability to optimize WAN links,” wrote eWEEK Labs senior analyst Henry Baltazar. “In tests, we found that traffic was significantly accelerated, with HyperIP appliances enhancing WAN transmissions. Using the HyperIP to accelerate the WAN, we could push 348.5MB per minute over the link, which essentially increased our transmission speeds more than sevenfold.”

The NetEx DRO appliance also mitigates the negative effects of packet loss, jitter, congestion and other network disruptions and boosts the performance of replication traffic for business continuance and disaster recovery requirements. HyperIP works well with a host of data replication solutions and can also be used to boost performance of TCP-based file transfer protocols (FTP). Using block-level compression, sequence reduction algorithms and TCP/IP optimization technologies, the appliance ensures that IT managers can get the most out of their expensive WAN pipes.

“For most companies moving large amounts of data over a WAN, the problem isn't the size of the pipe but rather the speed at which data can be sent over it. WAN optimization products such as the HyperIP, which shipped last month, allow applications to send out packets as quickly as possible while using proprietary technology to ensure that common problems such as dropped or out-of-order packets do not crimp the speed of WAN links,” said Baltazar. “Given the latency and volatility of WAN links, NetEx’s HyperIP DRO appliance is an ally for IT departments trying to get the most out of their expensive network pipes.”

“We developed HyperIP DRO to help customers achieve significant performance enhancements for their mission-critical replication applications. We take pride that HyperIP is making a big impact with our customers by providing significantly higher data throughput performance and by lowering the cost of replication solutions as compared to other transport solutions such as Fibre Channel over IP,” said Robert MacIntyre, vice president of business development and marketing at NetEx.  “We want to thank eWEEK Labs for independently substantiating our claims of the HyperIP’s superiority in optimizing TCP/IP-based data replication and file transfer traffic across the WAN, alleviating network bottlenecks and ensuring fast and reliable delivery of data over distance.”
