Broadview Networks Implements NetEx HyperIP to Accelerate Data Replication between New York City and Pennsylvania World’s fastest application accelerator delivers substantial TCO benefits, simplified operations, increased storage utilization for electronically integrated communications provider (e-ICP) MINNEAPOLIS, MN, November 15, 2004—NetEx, the worldwide leader in high-performance data transport solutions, announced that Broadview Networks has implemented a NetEx Hyper Powered IP™ (HyperIP) configuration to accelerate backup and replication operations between facilities in New York City and Pennsylvania. In this application, HyperIP enables Broadview Networks to seamlessly deploy a redundant, highly scalable and highly available replication solution that allows the communications company to achieve substantial TCO benefits associated with increased application throughput and significantly reduced session transfers. Broadview Networks, a network-based electronically integrated communications provider (e-ICP), provides integrated communications solutions (including local, long-distance and international voice services, data services and dial-up and high speed Internet services) to business and communications-intensive customers in the northeastern and mid-Atlantic states. Broadview Networks has implemented the NetEx HyperIP solution to accelerate their EMC SRDF Adaptive Copy over IP replication operations between New York City, NY and Horsham, Pa. Using the HyperIP-enabled solution, Broadview Networks fully utilizes their Fractional (24 Mbps) DS-3 WAN circuit with effective application throughput of 60 to 90 Mb/s, allowing the company to reduce their replication windows by up to 70%. HyperIP allows Broadview to avoid the costs associated with deploying a second DS-3 circuit to accommodate current replication windows and planned growth for their ongoing storage requirements. “HyperIP provides a scalable, highly available solution that can accommodate the growth of Broadview’s storage replication requirements while leveraging our existing IP WAN infrastructure,” said Paul Mumm, Vice President of Information Technology, Broadview Networks. “As a result of implementing HyperIP, we are now evaluating other ways to leverage this technology for multiple enterprise applications. We have greatly reduced our backup windows and decreased server cycles to maximize productivity, while achieving a significant return on our investment.” NetEx’s HyperIP is able to fully utilize allocated session bandwidth, accelerate data rates and minimize performance degradation by using superior compression along with latency and packet loss mitigation technologies. The NetEx solution quickly and efficiently aggregates the data blocks to the HyperIP-accelerated pipe and then automatically compresses the data from 2:1 to 15:1 depending on the compressibility of the data. “With bandwidth being one of the major costs associated with data intensive applications, such as those associated with data protection and data movement solutions, the ability to effectively compress and accelerate data transfers can greatly lower TCO with bandwidth savings alone,” said Robert MacIntyre, Vice President, Business Development and Marketing, NetEx. “By implementing a Hyper Powered IP solution, Broadview Networks has deployed a highly scalable, easy-to-manage solution that allows them to achieve the highest return on investment – from their existing network infrastructure – in a cost-effective and practical manner.” More about Hyper Powered IP Hyper Powered IP outperforms other IP application accelerators by offering superior performance and bandwidth utilization over any distance. Hyper Powered IP shields the applications from performance degradation due to packet loss, latency, and jitter. It also efficiently compresses the data, which reduces operating costs associated with expensive bandwidth that is used with applications such as data replication.
