NetEx Press Release

IDC Report Calls NetEx HyperIP R5
‘ The SUV For Large Storage Transfers Over IP’

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn., August 17, 2004 —Following the rollout of its HyperIP R5, NetEx, the worldwide leader in high-performance data transport solutions, was the subject of a Product Flash from IDC that describes the new product as “an improved solution to reliably and safely move large data over wide area IP.”

The IDC report co-authored by Robert Gray, Research President of Worldwide Storage Systems Research; Rhoda Phillips, Storage Software Research Manager; and Sterling Perrin, Senior Research Analyst in IDC's newly formed Optical Networks program, stated that NetEx HyperIP software running on a Linux appliance “smartly brings together techniques that will be an increasingly needed solution as storage continues to be ‘networked’ and the interconnect transport is increasingly over IP and Ethernet.”

IDC noted, “We think storage systems suppliers should be aware of this technology: it will play an increasingly critical role in complex storage systems – dependent more on the glue between storage elements than on the elements themselves for overall performance.”

IETF standards-based HyperIP is the fastest industry-hardened high-volume data transfer over IP-based WANs, expanding the performance envelope up to 480 Mbps. This is more than a 200 percent speed improvement over the previous release of HyperIP and far outpaces any other technology on the market today. NetEx’s exclusive acceleration and shielding technology reduces bandwidth and equipment costs for time-sensitive, mission-critical data for organizations with high-speed WAN linked sites. Eliminating TCP/IP degradation issues associated with distances greater than 200 circuit miles or 320 kilometers and packet loss, HyperIP R5 results in an application throughput boost ranging from 300 to 1,000 percent compared to standard IP networks. Turning on HyperIP compression increases that throughput an additional two to 15 times, depending on the data’s compressibility.

IDC concluded its Product Flash saying that NetEx HyperIP is well positioned to solve a growing problem in packet loss mitigation, block level compression and transport protocol conversion accelerating the application. “The R5 version improves the positioning with significantly higher performance, simplicity and moderate costs, and a long list of certified software partner products as well as industry-standard FTP and iSCSI.”
