GLOBAL ENERGY COMPANY CHOOSES NETEX HYPERIP Customer accelerates multi-vendor storage replication applications to deliver business continuance and disaster recovery over existing IP infrastructure MINNEAPOLIS, Minn., June 21, 2005 NetEx, the worldwide leader in high-performance data transport solutions, today announced that a global energy company has selected its HyperIP® Data Replication Optimizer (DRO) product to accelerate their multi-vendor storage replication applications in order to deliver business continuity and disaster recovery services over their existing IP infrastructure. With diverse business operations scattered throughout the world, the company sought a data protection strategy that could scale to meet a broad range of technical and operational requirements. The company needed to replicate critical data between their geographically distributed locations independent of server or storage platforms. The initial phase of the solution concentrated on accelerating traffic between the company’s data centers within the United States for supporting multiple storage replication applications such as NSI Software’s Double-Take, NetApp’s SnapMirror and EMC’s Centera storage products utilizing their existing IP infrastructure. The company chose NetEx HyperIP for its ability to accelerate storage replication applications by mitigating network latency and variations, such as packet loss and jitter; and for its high-performance compression. NetEx HyperIP provided a quicker payback for moving multi-vendor storage replication traffic between data centers instead of more expensive and complex technologies such as Fibre Channel over IP. The benefit of saving time and money by leveraging their existing IP infrastructure helped the company install and test multiple storage replication products quickly and easily. “To have our data replication optimizer selected as part of a comprehensive business continuity and disaster recovery plan by a global energy business is further validation of the NetEx HyperIP DRO benefits,” said Robert MacIntyre, Vice President Business Development and Marketing at NetEx. “HyperIP’s ability to accelerate multiple vendors’ storage replication applications while mitigating common network issues that are problematic between data centers makes it a leading choice for companies interested in delivering comprehensive business continuance and disaster recovery services throughout their enterprise.” NetEx’s HyperIP is able to accelerate storage replication traffic and minimize degradation over distance by using superior data compression technology along with latency and packet loss mitigation technologies. HyperIP automatically compresses replication data, ranging from 2:1 to 15:1, depending on the information being compressed, and quickly and efficiently aggregates the data blocks to the HyperIP-accelerated pipe. HyperIP also provides data replication optimization by ‘rate limiting’ the bandwidth allocated for selected storage applications. Finally, HyperIP provides ‘traffic shielding’ from intermittent network variations thereby mitigating, if not eliminating, the occasional restart of critical data replication applications or missed critical data transfer windows. In addition to accelerating multiple storage networking applications, HyperIP ensures that time-sensitive traffic is consistently delivered on time between centralized and distributed servers to support high-speed data migrations, warehousing and mining. It also addresses the electronic transfer needs of medical and digital video images, fixed content and high-performance technical computing. HyperIP also brings the same benefits to extended iSCSI data replication applications, providing maximum performance over any distance, improved link utilization and shielding against packet loss over existing IP infrastructures.
