Segment Size in HyperIP

Postby vRook12 » Tue Apr 26, 2011 8:00 am

Quick question for the forum:

I've got HyperIP running ok in my data center configs (two sites; main and DR) and I want to add the remote sites back to the data center. I've configured segment sizes for the larger sites, but the remote offices have smaller links, all below 3Mbs. I've read documentation about using smaller segment sizes for smaller link speeds. What do you all recommend for this setting?

When running slower links (under 45 Mb/s) or using a VPN, a segment size of 1300 is suggested. This size will avoid HyperIP sending fragmented packets and allow for additional VPN overhead. On lower speed links it will also smooth the flow of packets between HyperIPs which should avoid dropped packets due to buffer overruns or other situations where sending a 32KB burst of traffic may cause issues.

Thanks for that. I'm implementing VPN at all of the remote offices, so I'll use what you recommended. If I run into problems I'll just call support as a I role these sites out.
